Description

Our 2″ Slick is made by Mr. Teiichiro Ohkubo whose grandfather started the forge and established the brand name Daitei Nomi 100 years ago. Mr. Ohkubo’s grandfather won many prizes including a Gold medal in 1925 and a presidential prize in 1942. The current Ohkubo began training at age 14 and now has 40 years of chisel making experience. He has been recognized as a Koshiki Tanren, which means he has been trained in the traditional manner. He is one of only a handful of makers that can make chisels in the traditional manner, i.e. no use of any power assisted equipment. Mr. Ohkubo personally hand-forges each blade from a lamination of the Yasuki white steel and wrought iron material. The blades are then individually heat treated and tempered to Rockwell c65. The handle is Japanese Red Oak (Akagashi). The edge is fully sharpened and are ready for immediate use. Instructions for maintaining this edge are included. Blade length is 5″ and overall length is 25″.
