Description

The Sole Flattening Plane or dai-naoshi-kanna is used to condition the sold of a plane. The blade is set at 90 degrees in the dai. It scrapes the wood rather than shaving the wood, to prevent tear-out. For this reason it does not require a chipbreaker. It is used across the grain. Simple to use, the blade protrudes just slightly below the dai. It is typically much smaller than other planes. This particular one is 165mm long. The blade is made from the finest blue paper steel.
