Description

During a recent trip to Japan we visited with Akio Uozumi, the third generation plane blade maker of the Tsunesaburo family of planes. This family is the best known and are the most respected plane makers in Japan. They built a reputation on providing what customers want and need versus staying the most traditional course. This dedication to the customer has allowed their planes to be embraced by a new generation of woodworkers both in Japan and here in the United States.

We get asked quite a bit about the family name. Uozumi is the family name. The great grandfather was Mr. Saburo Uozumi. Tsune meaning ?always? and Saburo the original maker?s names.

Our Spoon Bottom Plane is made from top quality Japanese White Oak. The #1 Blue Paper Steel Blade is hand forged and sharpened to a razors edge. The blade is carefully fitted by hand.

The Spoon Bottom Plane has a spoon shaped sole and is essential for making scooping cuts, such as those found in the manufacture of pulling oars and for hollowing out chair seats.
