Description

Moku hanga is a type of relief printing that is the oldest and most basic of printmaking techniques. In order to create a print, the artist draws an image on a block of wood. Once that is accomplished, a hangi-to or carving knife is used to cut out the lines. The process continues by removing excess wood, using successively smaller knives and gouges, leaving the drawing standing. This seven-piece set includes the most popular knives and gouges, each one made by the traditional method of laminating steel and wrought iron together. These tools can easily be honed with waterstones and slips.
