To meet the Japanese craftsman?s need, we have found a quality source ? Mr. Inomoto, who makes each Dai by hand. He adds an Ebony Kuchi Ire immediately in front of the plane blade opening to expose a narrow band of end-grain. This Dai/Kuchi Ire combination provides the perfect vehicle for the meticulously crafted blade to produce exceedingly fine shavings.
