Customer Question:

Can some please explain the difference between the tormek t8 & t4.

I want to sharpen knives and wood chisels

Tools4Wood Answers:

Both of these machines, given the appropriate jigs, will perform the same function in terms of sharpening ability.

Where the machines differ is in usage:

  • The Tormek T-8 is geared towards a more commercial/workshop market where the machine is expected to run continuously with no desire for a cooling period. The machine is also considerably heavier and bigger than the T-4, with larger wheels, more power, more torque and faster RPMs. This machine also has a longer running life than the T-4
  • The Tormek T-4, however, is more suitable for the home user who will not be running the machine for extended periods of time. The machine will only run 30min before needing to cool off for another 30min.

In short, if you were only using this for home-se, the T-4 would be the most ideal purchase. Whereas, if you were starting a small sharpening business, then the T-8 would the ideal purchase.
