Combination Dado and Finger joints

by Andries Marais

Sometimes you need to manufacture a wooden breadboard or something that can be easily be cleaned. Like the bottom rack of this serving trolley.

You have the option to cut all the openings with a router or drill holes and cut out with a jig saw.

If you want to make some feature you can use a combination of dado and finger joints.

You simply cut the finger joints using a finger joint jig, table saw, band saw or by hand.
Then you prepare the inserts, sand to the required smoothness making sure you do not sand them to thin. Apply glue and insert in position.

This slatted board can be made without any power tools.
