A general purpose plane in between the scrub plane and smoothing plane, the Crown Jack Plane is used for smoothing edges and flattening stock. Jack, in this most versatile performer?s name, refers to the saying ?a jack of all trades,? indicating that the plane performs a multitude of tasks with aplomb. The Crown Jack measures 12-1/2″ long x 2-1/2″ wide, weighs approximately 1 lb., 12oz, and is made from carefully seasoned hard maple. The 1-1/2″ wide blade is A2 steel hardened to Rc60-62, ground to a 221/2? bevel, and set in the plane at a 45? angle with the bevel down. Each blade is hand fitted to each plane. The manufacturer supplies blades with plenty of length for a long life.
