Our Spoon Bottom Plane is made from top quality Japanese White Oak. The razor sharp blade is carefully fitted by hand. The AA quality blades are a hand-forged lamination of wrought iron and Shirogami Hagane (high carbon white steel). Each blade is individually tempered to Rockwell c65° to ensure a long lasting edge. Body width is 2¼˝, blade width is 1½˝ and overall body length is 6˝. The Spoon Bottom Plane has a spoon shaped sole and is essential for making scooping cuts, such as those found in the manufacture of pulling oars and for hollowing out chair seats.
