Description
Our Cabinetmaker’s Mortise Chisels (Tateguya Nomi) are specifically designed for chopping mortises by Shoji, furniture and cabinet makers. They are shorter and lighter than carpenters’ mortise chisels, yet sufficiently robust for furniture and cabinet work. The maker forge welds by hand high carbon “white steel” to wrought iron to form the blade. Each blade is individually heat treated and tempered by hand to Rockwell c65 to ensure a tough long lived edge. The double hooped handles are hand turned from the center of Japanese White Oak whose concentric growth rings impart great strength. Average blade length is 3˝ and overall length is 10˝. Each chisels comes razor sharp with instructions for maintaing its edge.
