Laser Cutting With Your CNC Machine
Laser Cutting With Your CNC Machine
The laser cutter is commonly known as being invented by Kumar Patel, who began his research in laser action when he started working at the United States Bell Labs, which is now owned by the Finnish company Nokia, in 1961. In 1963, he developed the first C02 laser, which is the variant with more modern applications than any other type of laser. C02 lasers are for engraving materials ranging from acrylic and plywood to cardboard and MDF.
Laser cutting is a fabrication process that uses a thin, focused, laser beam to cut and etch materials into custom designs, patterns, and shapes as specified by a designer. This non-contact, thermal-based fabrication process is ideal for several materials, including wood, glass, paper, metal, plastic, and gemstone. It’s also capable of producing intricate parts without needing a custom-designed tool.
With our very popular CrocCraft CNC Machines, you can indeed add a laser module to the CNC machine.
Laser Upgrade Kits For Cron Craft CNC Machine
The CronCraft laser is a high-quality blue laser module for laser engraving. The laser can cut soft materials as well, but the laser is designed for engraving, so cutting with this laser for extended periods of time will degrade the laser.
It has a variable lens to set the focus. The aluminium housing and forced air cooling ensures efficient cooling for optimal operation and long service life. The intensity of the laser can be adjusted via the TTL/PWM signal. Please see below for the materials that can be processed with this laser.

*Can cut wood with multiple passes, but extended periods of cutting will degrade the laser. Yellow MDF or Laser MDF is recommended rather than normal MDF.
**Only dark colours of Acrylic and Perspex
***Metal engraving spray, powder or tape required for laser marking on bare metal surface.
