About Kevin’s Woodworking
I live in Benoni and am a civil engineer by profession. I started woodworking in 2012 just before a visit to my son who lives in the USA. I wanted to take a gift to my granddaughter who was about 18 months old at the time so I decided to build something for her, a labour of love, rather than just buy something out of a gift shop. So I made her a doll’s crib which she still has today. That ignited my passion for woodworking. I started off mainly making toys but have since moved on to other things such as kitchen cupboards, furniture and heirloom gifts. I also give woodworking classes on demand.
In my working life, I have been involved in the construction of bridges and other major structures. I take this construction philosophy through to my woodworking in that every workpiece of mine is very soundly engineered and sturdily built. I do take a lot of pride in my work and from certain of the photos attached you can see there is a lot of attention to detail. Everything you see in the photos will last a very long time and can become heirlooms.
I will still be actively employed for another 18 months after which time I will retire. From that point on I intend to spend much more time with my woodworking and turn it into a business. I do have a website which is up and running: www.kevinswoodworking.co.za.
