With space becoming more of an issue in these modern times, woodworkers all over South Africa are finding themselves with less space to carry out their favourite pastime. Luckily there are a few places where one can increase their woodworking skill and knowledge in South Africa.

Here is a list of woodworking schools and woodworking courses currently available to you:

With a fully-loaded CNC Machine and a every power tool you can possible require for any project, this Johannesburg based Workshop space also offers a range of course which are also available at Tools4Wood.

Finikiti Woodworks

Finikiti Woodworks started a business in 2010 making small cottage type furnishings from South African pine, Saligna and reclaimed Oregon.  They also manufacture ‘bespoke’ pieces from available exotic timbers. Handyman services – repairs & maintenance – are provided to customers in Boksburg / Benoni and cities & towns in the surrounding area. All three Foundation courses as a consolidated course over 5 continuous days – Monday to Friday. A minimum of 4 students (maximum of 6) are required to enroll as this course would require us to close the workshop. The total cost per person is available on request and includes all materials. This course is ideal for corporate participants and small groups!

The Mercury School of Woodwork

Based in Cape Town, The Mercury School of Woodwork offers you the opportunity to rediscover the age-old craft of woodwork. Whether you are a complete novice or a seasoned woodworker wanting to brush up on technique, you’ll find the course that suits you. Our youngest students were at Grade 8 level and the oldest at 72 years!

The school was established in 2006 with the aim of providing students with the opportunity to gain knowledge of woodwork techniques, materials, machinery and finishes in a friendly, fun and safe environment. Our small classes ensure the perfect balance between shared learning and individual attention. They currently offer Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced courses in our Foundation in Woodwork program. The three Foundation in Woodwork courses are also offered in the form of the Intensive Course, when all fifteen lessons are completed over five days, from Monday to Friday. This course has proved to be very popular with students from all over South Africa and overseas.
