Thank you, Siphesihle! I have purchased the metric Wolfcraft set instead to save myself some hassles (and R530 at time of writing). It even comes with an 8mm dowel drill bit, bit stop and forty 8mm dowels to get you started. The instructions can be downloaded here: http://www.wolfcraft.com/uploads/tx_commerce/3750000_116330058.PDF
The document does not have much in terms of written instructions, but the pictures are very clear and simple. It explains how to make corner, surface and edge joints. Cannot wait for the set to arrive!

Pardon me if this is a stupid question: This is an American product, so will I need US Imperial drill bits and dowels? The only dowels I ever see are metric.

Hell again, and thank you for the quick response.

What is the difference between the Milescraft Jointpro and the Wolfcraft Universal set please? Quality? or more versatile, more hole sizes etc. And the
I still fail to see how either of them will work on the flat surface, how will it clamp on? Considering the board is 18 mm thick, the center or the dowel will be 9 mm from the edge of the board. With a 8 mm dowel, the drill will cut 5 mm from the edge of the board.
I am not at all disputing that it can do it, I have just never seen it in action. I want to buy the right things from the start.
And the Task Premium Doweling Jig? That will only work on the sides of the board?
    Cheers

    Hello Sir,
I need some guidance please. We are building a “box-bed”, from 18 mm furniture grade plywood. We had the wood professionally cut on a CNC machine. Now we need to join the pieces. Being a bed, although very low, only 250 mm off the ground, there will be a lot of lateral movement and forces on the joints. Most of the joints will be butt joints:
    – How do I best join them? Dowels or pocket holes with glue?
    – I think dowels, which leads me to doweling jigs.
    – Which is best for and most universal? We need to dowel into the edges (18 mm) and also into the flat sides, close to the edges.
    – Then dowel size? 9mm max from what I can gather. This will cause us to make the dowel hole very close to the edges.

All advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Tony
