  1. Don MacIver

Good value here. Despite the slightly smaller blade the capacity of this machine is plenty big enough for the average user. The extraction works very efficiently and the woodchip bag fills up fast. Mitres and compound mitres are easily and quickly set up, the only annoyance being your memory in that the clamp gets in the way when the head is tilted and you will have forgotten to remove it. Not the greatest clamp either. Nevertheless this is a great product from Metabo.

  2. Peter Veitch

Bought this principally to cut at 45 deg with accuracy and repeatedly without re-alignment. Was sceptical initially as the demo at Tools4Wood was slightly out. Did a quick squaring on this saw and a few test cuts and I was convinced, so took one there and then (Great service form the ladies the office).

Now having used it for a number of small projects, my old faithful Dewalt radial arm saw of 35 or more years is going on the market as I have principally being using it only for cross cutting over the last few years.

My only small nit with the Metabo is that the second blade supplied should have been 60 tip and not the same 40 tpi supplied with the saw.

A good buy, easy to use

  4. AshleyDonald

Won this as a prize in a T4W comp. Great product. Very accurate once “trued up”.

  7. Buks Pieterse (verified owner)

I am so satisfied with this machine that my De Walt is getting a new home. It can do the same work as the De Walt and the laser guide make it so much faster to operate and no more lining up to cut on the line. Great service from Tools4Wood.

  8. keith.rgm

This is my go to tool for most cutting, Its accurate and excellent value. I did however have to change the blade after what I considered as not a lot of cutting. I replaced the standard blade with a 60T and this has also made the cuts much smoother.
As I mount and remount the saw in a saw stand, I have found that you need to recheck for square and true regularly
The preset mitre settings are very accurate as well

  9. mike3 (verified owner)

i am extremely pleased with this purchase. I had an entry level mitre saw before, which I worked to death but find this neat machine a pleasure to use and find its accuracy a bonus. I like.

  10. melvinjohn.moss (verified owner)

Apart from the small blade this mitre saw is an excellent buy mine is still going strong great buy

  11. hjvrensburg (verified owner)

A great little saw for the price. I needed to set it up properly, but once set is has remained accurate. The work light is great as well and the laser is a nice feature when preparing for the cut.
All in all a good saw saw for the money.

  12. Ettienevd

Bought my first mitre (Metabo KGS216). What a machine for the price you pay. The clamps aren’t the best, but still an incredible machine.

  13. Vaughn (verified owner)

My first big power tool for woodworking (apart from handheld power tools), and I must say I’m very impressed with the quality of the saw versus the price. This is cheaper than the usual “cheaper” brands, and is a german made machine. mostly metal construction, not too much plastic, and the laser and led light are really handy value add items. easy to operate straight out of the box, but as usual make sure to set it up properly before making any critical cuts. delivery was fast (within 3 days of payment), and the whole transaction went very smoothly. Thanks tools4wood for a great deal.

  14. bernadettevarner (verified owner)

As usual, fantastic service from Tools4Wood!
After having read the other reviews I can certainly agree on a few points.
It would have been nice if the second blade had been a 60T and not another 40T.
My machine definitely needed a lot of fine tuning to get it square!
And the clamp is not the greatest.
However, for the price, it really is fantastic value for money. It does exactly what I need it to do, and I don’t see any need to buy the more expensive one in the range. This is perfect for small jobs, and the laser feature is also great to have, making work go a little quicker.

  15. mornem

Guys, I have a pre-sales questions that I need some experienced user feedback on: All of you mention the good value for money this machine offers but I’m wondering what all the fine tuning is that you have to do to get the machine squared up and ready to use? I’m not really clued up on calibrating mitre saws… Thanks for you help!

  16. byron (verified owner)

Really good for the price get the job done, clean accurate cuts

  17. mornem

Based on the feedback from all the experienced users over here, I went ahead and bought this saw. Works well out of the box and the calibration needed is minimal. I noticed that the laser needed slight adjustment but that’s not a train smash. The saw works really well and packs a punch for it’s size. The only “bad” thing I’ve found is that the positive stops don’t always lock in; this may be because the rail is still new or needs a bit of lube. Overall, very good value for money compared to other brand offerings of the same size.

  18. JacoV1457

I have used the saw now for one week…with no complaints. The cuts are very accurate with minimal adjustment. Based on research the Metabo’s are known for motor quality.
Light weight and easy to carry. Would also have liked to receive a 60T as additional blade in stead of another 40T.

  19. Harris Creations

I bought this tool on the spur of the moment as the last of a crazy cheap special at a local hardware. At the time I was using a Dewalt 1251 Radial Arm saw for all my crosscuts, set up with this machine was tedious and mitres were always a gruelling under taking.
My initial first impression of the saw was its weight, for a fully functioning SCM, it is remarkably light and straight away I’d recommend it for site application. This is not to say the machine is all plastic, and certainly has a sturdy build quality making adequate use of aluminium components.
After spending a weekend welding up a frame with 1500mm wings either side for the outfeed, I went ahead with a normal set-up and squaring procedure. The process took longer than I expected and eventually I was able to get the saw to the point where I was happy to make a series of test cuts.
Here is where you get what you pay for. Despite spending at least two hours on set-up, the saw has at least 1.5-2mm play in its sliding gantry. This can prove to be a nuisance when trying to make repeated accurate cuts, however I discovered making a series of passes as appose to a single through cut, made the world of a difference and the blade did not track as much.
Being a single bevel machine, you are limited in the manner in which you set up stop jig for repeated cuts. Flipping the work piece can present tear out issues on the seen side of material that would usually be cut face up at the mitre saw.
The dust collection is mentionable as the supplied bag is rapidly full to overflowing, testament to an effective dust management system. Coupled with a shop vac you will no doubt be surprised at the saws efficiency in this department.
The highlight for me on this machine is the motor. Trying my luck, I took a 150x150mm French Oak Cant and daringly went about a 3 cut rotation to bring the piece to size. The saw made no hesitation in the cut (bearing in mind I was making use of the full cut capacity in a very dense wood). Granted I had changed out the supplied blade which dulled far too quickly (a side note; supplied blades are usually nasty, a good quality laser cut body with high grade TCT tips WILL improve the efficiency and cut quality of your saws).
The clamp and depth stop are both a sore talking point. The depth stop is inefficient and ineffective when trying to make dados or lap joins due to the slack found in the machines gantry in all axes. The clamp almost always gets the way and is a right pain to try and find a storage place on the machine where it is safely out of the way.
The out wings proved to be handy when on sight and a worthwhile addition on the machine. Initially I thought these were a bit gimmicky, but the added 200mm odd support each side, they assisted in safe cuts of long stock away from my work station.
Who would buy this machine? Folks on a tight budget not wanting to buy “Chinese/Japcrap”. Contractors who need a light, powerful machine to whom 1-2mm/deg is not a talking point. Or in my case, an affordable, powerful breakdown to take full lengths down to a manageable size for the table saw.
Great machine, attractive price but not ideal for precision.

  20. ajdebeer132

Very good, the only draw back that you might have is the size of the blade but i dont work with large pieces so this is a godsend.
    cant recommend this more.

  21. prinslja (verified owner)

I love this tool. It has been on my wish list for a very long time, and eventually got the special. It is very handy for quick cutting pieces, where a table saw is too cumbersome to shift around.
Cuts beautifully and will do even better with a finer tooth blade.

  22. lusvirkap

Great saw for the price. Got mine Nov 2017. Mine came squared up out of the box. I have re-squared twice since and it’s easy enough to do. Used mine to cut 3 bedrooms worth of laminate flooring out of the box and it didn’t hiccup once. The blade needed sharpening though. My laser line has dimmed a bit which is probably from leaving it on while doing other work and I was pleasantly surprised to find out the replacement is only R125. Metabo South Africa staff have been very helpful along the way too.

  23. Edmund (verified owner)

One of my best tool investments

  24. Roryt (verified owner)

    Better than expected.

5 questions for Metabo KGS 216 M Mitre Saw with Sliding Function 216mm 1200W | 619260000

  1. mornem

How come the “Black Friday” price is so high? This machine wasn’t “R4k” yesterday! We’re not stupid T4W…

    • Gareth Williams

Morning @mornem You are correct. We were running the machine on Special at R3,399.00 with a recommended retail of R4,059.00. We have extended this for Black Friday to R2,899.00. So it is +- R1100 cheaper than recommended retail, and +- R500 cheaper than the special we were running

  2. Tanya Schutte

Hi Meinhard, its a but difficult to compare these 2 machines. The PCM 1800 SD is a bigger machine, blade dia. 254mm compared to the KGS 216 M blade dia. 216mm. Your decision will be based on our application and requirements. Have a look at the specifications of these two machines, you will see a big difference in the cutting capacities due to difference in blade size. Also, the PCM 1800 SD tilt both ways left and right (dual bevel), whereas the KGS 216 M only tilts to the left (single bevel) . A fair comparison would be between the KGS 216 M vs Bosch PCM 7; and the KGS 245 M vs the PCM 1800 SD.

    https://wood.tools4.co.za/product/metabo-kgs-254-m-sliding-mitre-saw/

Dual Bevel Compound Miter Saws. The main difference between a single bevel and a dual bevel compound miter saw is that with the dual bevel you won’t have to flip your workpiece to make bevel cuts on both sides. This is because you are able to swing the saw itself to make your matching bevel cuts. If quality is what you are after, though, a dual bevel is not necessarily your best option. A dual bevel will certainly help you make cuts faster, a single bevel will usually be more accurate. You will also find that there is a difference in price between the two types of saws, with dual bevel models typically being more expensive.

  3. Meinhard Van Den Berg

Also which one will you recommend, the Bosch PCM 1800 SD Dual Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw or this Metabo?

  4. Tanya Schutte

Hi Mainhard, we can source blades for this machine from the Metabo, Bosch and Festool range and it depends on their stock availability. What is your application for the required saw blade? Here is a link to a Bosch Multi-material saw blade that will work with this machine.

  5. Meinhard Van Den Berg

    Hi

How easy is it to find replacement blades for this machine? On your site, I do not find any other blades other than Metabo. The closest is TorqueCraft’s 210 mm blades.

    Thanks

    Meinhard
